The History of Delta Sigma
On March 26, 1946, Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Sorority for college and university bands was formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
In September of 1970, a colony was formed at Northeast Louisiana University for the purpose of starting a TBΣ chapter at NLU. The officers for the colony were:
President – Susan Massingale
Vice President – Debbie Steinquest
Secretary – Brenda Williams
Treasurer – Jan Young
Parliamentarian – Adrienne Cole
Sponsor – Mr. Jack White
Installing Officer – Richard A. Worthington, Director of the School of Music at NLU and Grand National President of KKΨ.
On December 12, 1970, the Psi chapter of TBΣ from the University of Arkansas initiated the above colony into a chapter, calling it Delta Sigma. This is how our chapter began; it was formed through hard work for TOMORROW’S BAND SORORITY.
One of the most important purposes of our sorority is to honor outstanding members, leaders, and those with leadership ability in the field of music. We also assist the band directors and the band in any way the two might need help.
Delta Sigma has not only worked at ULM, but has spread to other universities. Our chapter has initiated the following chapters:
Zeta Iota, Jackson State
Zeta Mu, Grambling State
Zeta Phi, Louisiana Tech
We have had a great past, yet the future can be even better. Each member can be recognized by the pride he/she exhibits in everything he/she undertakes.
